A great winter destination, Japan offers many resorts for beginner and expert skiers to try.

The growing number of ski resorts in Japan has been attributed to the growing number of people who want to master the art of skiing. Skiing is a winter sports activity that involves the use of long runners, commonly known as skis that are attached to boots or shoes.

The long runners are then used to travel on snow or ice. The special art of skiing requires many skills to master. With the growing number of people looking for ways to master skiing techniques, there have been major developments of different types of skiing methods. These methods of skiing can be broadly classified as either freestyle skiing or cross-country skiing.

There are more than five hundred registered ski resorts in Japan that are known for the high level of skiing services they offer. Most of these resorts are located on the northern island of Hokkaido and the southern mainland of Kyushu. These ski resorts register a large number of professional skiers as visitors during the winter seasons. Some of the well-known ski resorts in Japan include:

Niseko Ski Resort

The ski destination of Niseko is located on the northern island of Hokkaido and is known for its excellent snow conditions. Niseko ski resort is believed to be the most visited snow resort by foreign travelers. This resort has guaranteed powder snow all year round from the infamous Mt Yotei, making this destination one of the most sought after ski resorts in Japan.

Tomamu Ski Area

Tomamu ski resort is also located in the northern island of Hokkaido. It is a vast area that is well developed with advanced hotels with hot springs and immense snow powder that forms a favorable environment for skiing in Japan.

Shiga Kogen Ski Resort

Shiga Kogen ski resort is located on the main island of Kyushu and is widely considered to be the largest piece of skiable land in Japan. This ski resort is well endowed with excellent skiing conditions that continue to tempt ski lovers who can’t put down their ski gear. This ski resort is also a perfect destination for amateur skiers who like to develop their skills.

Fujiten Snow Resort

Fujiten snow resort is located on the slopes of Mt. Fuji, one of Japan’s most famous mountains. In this resort, you will find great recreational facilities for your children, where they can learn new skiing tactics with professional skiers. The high altitude provided by Mount Fuji makes for a great environment for cross-country and freestyle skiing.

Hakuba Ski Resort

Hakuba ski resort is located in the northwest of Nagano Prefecture, on the main island of Kyushu. The resort is a perfect destination for downhill skiing. This resort is well known for hosting the downhill events at the 1998 Winter Olympics.

It is important to note that there are a number of emerging ski resorts in Japan that are doing well as travel destinations for skiers. Most of these emerging ski resorts in Japan are located on the main southern island of Kyushu. The metropolitan city of Tokyo is known for having no registered ski resorts, although there are favorable conditions that allow skiing in this world-class city.
