Mexico has a lot to offer as a family vacation destination.

Not only will the family return home with many great memories, Mexico’s vibrant culture as well as its ancient architecture will also inspire the imagination of minds young and old alike.

Cancun

One of the most popular resort cities in the country, Cancún is located in southeastern Mexico and is known as the Mexican Caribbean. It boasts beautiful beaches and lots of outdoor fun for kids. Sailing, kayaking, diving and snorkelling are just a few water-based activities that the whole family can enjoy. Or see the beautiful Cancun cenotes has to offer. Other popular experiences in Cancun include jeep safari tours, eco-archaeological parks, visits to local markets and even cooking classes.

City of Mexico

Another great family vacation destination, Mexico City is rich in art, culture and history. Parque Mexico in the Condesa area offers space for children to roam free, and is well maintained with many fountains, ponds, waterfalls as well as many varieties of exotic trees.

Adults on the other hand, can relax and admire the murals that can be found in many public places around the city. Famous works include those of artists such as Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco and Hector Cruz Garcia.

For a full afternoon of fun with the kids, the Chapultepec zoo is the perfect place to be. Entrance to the zoo is free, and it is home to many species of animals native to Mexico.

The Zocalo is a huge open square and a great social meeting place, with many street vendors and artists to entertain the whole family. This is a fantastic place to observe local life and watch traditional street performances.

Tulum

For somewhere a little different that really sparks the imagination of a young mind, a visit to Tulum is a must. Tulúm is an ancient Mayan fortress city and is the only archaeological site that was built overlooking the ocean. Children can combine learning about these ruins with a dip in the sea – a perfect combination to ensure their minds are filled but their energy is spent! Other things to do include turtle watching and jungle tours.
